It's amazing what you can do with crumpled paper!

Updated: Oct 27, 2021

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO CREATE A 3D SCULPTURE FROM CRUMPLED PAPER?? and sticky tape? At first I thought it impossible, but with perseverance and patience it slowly came together. I soon realised that what I needed to do was to keep the shape I was trying create in the forefront of my mind.

Firstly, I knew I wanted to create a stylised replica of an ancient Chinese Horse sculpture.

I started creating the body by tearing in half pages from a magazine and then crumpling them up and taping each together to give me a solid central frame.

Next, using the same technique, I added the neck and head to the horse. It's important, whilst creating these, that you bear in mind the proportional balance of head and neck to the torso of the horse. You don't necessarily have to follow any exact measurement, it's all about visual balance and the finished effect you're trying to portray. For instance, consider angling the neck and head to accentuate character and give the work you're creating personality.
